The Mind Garage hailed from Morgantown WV. In 1968 seven of these songs were recorded at Glen Campbell Studio in Pittsburgh, Pa. Asphalt Mother and Reach Out were recorded the same year at Bell Sound Studio, Long Island, NY and released on Morning Glori Label as a 45 RPM single. The Glen Cambell tracks were never released. Except for a brief appearance of the 33 1/3 acetate in 1983, the songs remained lost and forgotten for 35 years The master tapes and acetate are both lost now, possibly forever. I can't say when the master tapes disappeared. It may have been destroyed almost immediately after the recording session. It was not uncommon for an engineer to record over the pervious session for economic reasons. In 1983, three or four cassettes were made from the acetate. Then in 2004 one of the cassettes was found and a CD was made from it. The quality was unsatisfactory. Then it was remastered again, twice in 2005 to improve the sound. But it was useless. Then late in 2005 Rick Ravenscroft came across a better quality cassette in the posession of Evan Jones and started the remastering all over again. Although the newer cassette had vastly better sound quality than the first one, audiophiles should not expect perfect digital quality. However collectors and fans will enjoy the raw, live sound mastered from best possible sources albeit with inherent sonic limitations. |
