Forward

I think I have given the world much more joy than grief, but no one gets through life without slipping now and then. If I hurt anyone I am sorry. I certainly did not do it with malice.

This story and content of this website, for the most part, come directly my scrapbook. This is simply my account of that time and how I remember the Mind Garage, but it isn't the complete story or definitive account by any means. However, it is a good overview. It isn't about me in particular, though sometimes it may appear so, because I am presenting it. It isn't political and even though it deals in some measure with the Electric Liturgy, it isn't religious. Its just my scrapbook, for what its worth. I'd like to share it with you and I hope you enjoy it. There were many, many more bands and venues we played than I was able to document here. The other band members have contributed clippings and photos and refreshed my memory and have their own memories, and I'm sure they could tell you much more.

I wish I knew who said "if you can remember the 60s, you weren't there". That is so true in more ways than one. I would like to give credit where credit is due. Unfortunately in many cases, I simply don't remember and there are no clues. For example, nearly 40 years ago a friend may have clipped an article from the newspaper without the paper's name, date, or author, and given it to me. So if you see something and you know where it came from let me know.

The most comical illustration of "if you can remember the 60s, you weren't there" to me is about the Iron Butterfly. I only remembered we had played a show with them, but all I could remember was that I had watched them from the audience. I was doubly surprised when Jack reminded me that we had played with them more than once. You'd think I would remember an event like that.
Jack's explanation was that possibly it didn't seem out of the ordinary, nothing to make a mental note of. We were traveling a lot and playing with other notable groups, recording in major cities, giving newspaper and magazine interviews, appearing on TV and much much more including dealing with our personal lives.I did find some photos that had Iron Butterfly, Pittsburgh Civic Arena written on them, so it was true, and now I remember.

Recently I heard an interview with Joe Walsh, and his very funny comment was relevant. It went something like this...I played a lot of shows with Ozzy (Osborne). I don't rememeber any of them but it must be true because I have the posters :-) By the way Joe, you also played a show with the Mind Garage. I wonder if you remember :-) I don't have the poster, but if you're reading this and want to know where, email me.

I would like to invite anyone, musicians, friends or fans, to contribute photos, stories and memorabilia. The story needs to be as complete as possible. Thank you for coming.
